Brian Sayers was appointed the Executive Director of the Priory in the USA in January 2016. Previously, Mr. Sayers served as President of the Washington Charitable Trust, a humanitarian-based NGO established in Washington DC.
Prior to founding the Washington Charitable Trust, Mr. Sayers served as Executive Director of the Syrian Support Group (SSG), the only US-based organization that was licensed by the US Treasury Department to provide humanitarian support to Syria. During this period, Mr. Sayers founded the Washington DC office and coordinated with the US State Department and the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations for the provision and delivery of millions of dollars’ worth of humanitarian support and aid.
Before joining SSG, Mr. Sayers spent six years as an officer at the Headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the Directorate of Operations and served as an advisor on five different operations, including Libya, Counter-Piracy off the Horn of Africa, Afghanistan (ISAF), Kosovo (KFOR) and the NATO Training Mission Iraq (NTMI). Mr. Sayers was appointed by the NATO Secretary General to serve as a political advisor to the Commander of NATO Forces in Kosovo in 2009. In 2010, he was selected for the NATO Executive Management Program.
Prior to joining the NATO International Staff, Mr. Sayers served at the Defense Operations Division under the United States Representative of the Secretary of Defense in Europe (SECDEFREPEUR) at the US Mission to NATO where he staffed policy on NATO’s widening engagement in Afghanistan.
Mr. Sayers holds a Master of Letters in Management, Economics and International Relations from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University in Washington DC.
