Our Mobile Outreach teams are one of the most regionally effective of all of our services, taking eye care directly into hard-to-reach villages.

The Mobile Outreach teams deliver essential eye treatment to some of the most remote and impoverished communities in the West Bank. Founded in 1980, Mobile Outreach is one of the most regionally effective of all of our services. Teams take vital eye care directly into hard-to-reach villages. They sometimes face accessibility issues and can be held at military checkpoints or are forced to turn back.

Our Mobile Outreach Project has two teams that travel across the West Bank every week. One Mobile Outreach team typically sees between 8,000 and 10,000 Palestinians each year, but recently we were able to add a second Mobile Outreach van to the service, meaning that we are now able to see approximately 17,000 Palestinians each year. The Outreach van is fully equipped with specialized medical equipment for screening patients suffering from a variety of eye conditions.

  • Our doctors and nurses examine the patients and then refer any who have serious conditions to our hospital in Jerusalem or to one of our medical centers in the north and south of the West Bank.
  • All patients are screened free of charge. If treatment is required, patient treatment is either subsidized or completely waived.
  • Eye health education is also delivered to patients and their families. This is through education workshops and one-on-one sessions.
  • With peoples' eyesight returned, the ultimate goal of this project will be for them to find work and return to education.
