St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group
St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) is a subsidiary of the Order.
The main hospital in East Jerusalem has been operating for 140 years. The Hospital is the primary provider of eye care for Palestinians in East Jerusalem, and sees many of the most complex eye cases from across the Palestinian Territories, which are referred to the Hospital from medical centers across the West Bank and Gaza. As it is the only charitable provider of eye care, the importance of the Hospital for the region cannot be overstated.
St. John Eye Hospital has a large outpatients department, specialist eye units, operating theaters and 24-hour eye emergency services. There are also hospitals in Gaza and Hebron, clinics in Anabta, Kufor Aqab and Muristan in the Old City and mobile outreach vans.
Volunteer Programs
As part of our mission to encourage the spiritual and moral strengthening of mankind and to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, in 2012 the U.S. Priory established the St John Volunteer Corps (SJVC). The Volunteer Corps provides the opportunity for hands-on service with fellow Members, much like the volunteer service that the Order’s members provide in other countries through the St John Ambulance organizations. The SJVC’s scope of authorized services includes serving Veterans and their families in VA centers, the general community and vulnerable populations across the country through local charitable support organizations.
